Supporting People to Places - People to Places maidenhead and windsor

In focus: Trustee Scott MacRae – How support for People to Places goes beyond the Board

Last year we were delighted to welcome Scott MacRae to our Trustee Board. Scott brings with him a wealth of experience from his job as Director of Right at Home Maidenhead, offering residents of Maidenhead and the surrounding areas in-home care. Working in the care sector, Scott knows first-hand how important People to Places core mission is to our community. People to Places focus has, and always will be, tackling loneliness, isolation and providing independence for people with mobility issues. Our Marketing and Impact Manager, Jaimee Grimes spoke to Scott for our latest newsletter.

How would your friends and family describe you?

Mmm depends on my mood, passionate, thoughtful, driven, humorous.

What is your professional background?

I have run a home care agency, Right at Home, in Maidenhead for the past 8 years. Before that, I was involved in electronics/semiconductors for 25 years finishing up as a Sales Director for Northern Europe. (not related to care at all).

What attracted you to join People to Places?

People to Places help people get out and about who have mobility problems. It keeps our clients engaged and part of the community and reduces loneliness, one of the things I see in my own business as a big issue. We reduce isolation, something we have all learned a lot about over the past year, and so we all know how important it is to avoid if we can do that safely. I want to give back to the local community so it’s a nice and positive thing to do.

What are you most looking forward to about being a Trustee at People to Places?

Helping the charity stay strong, help with fundraising so the local community can benefit from our services now and in the long term.

As a Trustee, Scott is part of a team of like-minded people whose job it is to guide the charity. They all make sure our services remain true to our purpose and have a practical role. Ensuring we have sufficient funds, maintain our good standing in the community, and ensure we adhere to all legal and governmental regulations and requirements. Scott has also embraced the opportunity People to Places offers for corporate sponsorship. In his role as owner and director of Right at Home Maidenhead, Scott has sponsored one of our vital minibuses!

And now a message from our sponsors…

Our corporate sponsorship offers companies the opportunity to have their company logo on one of our minibuses. This company branding will remain on your sponsored vehicle for the duration of your sponsorship. Our minibuses are also a staple of daily life on the roads of the Royal Borough and enable our DialARide, community transport, and Home to School services. AllWaste Berkshire Ltd joined us as a sponsor this year and you can see their Managing Director, John Tanner and People to Places CEO Peter Haley with their branded minibus in the photo below. Corporate sponsorship supports People to Places in delivering its essential services to vulnerable people in our shared community. It also expands our provisions and adapts to the changing needs of our members and service users.

Keeping up with the Upkeep: A snapshot of what your sponsorship can do

Our Maidenhead and Windsor Shopmobility sites offer members and visitors to the Royal Borough access to our mobility scooters. They e even available on a day or on extended hire. This allows people with mobility issues to do their shopping, see family and get out and about. It’s a service that supports both physical and mental wellbeing. People to Places has not stopped operating, providing for members and vulnerable people in the Royal Borough throughout the pandemic. We have a fleet of around 40 scooters, all requiring regular upkeep, making sure they’re safe and fit for purpose. In addition to regular maintenance costs, a replacement can cost us anywhere between £900-£3,000 per scooter! Corporate sponsorship makes sure we always have a working fleet of mobility scooters, providing members with the freedom to live their lives.

The global pandemic has thrown many charities, institutions and businesses into turmoil. We understand that asking for help, particularly financially, is a big ask at the moment. But, as AllWaste Berkshire Ltd and Right at Home Maidenhead have shown, People to Places is a worthwhile investment. We have been serving the people of the Royal Borough since we opened our doors in 1989 and we intend to go on for as long as possible. And with your help, we can!
